AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Three Akron elementary schools on the chopping block due to budget woes.

Superintendent David James has recommended the School Board close three elementary schools at the end of this year.

The schools scheduled to close are Barrett, Rankin and Essex. Closing the buildings would save about $1M.

The suggestion to close the schools has angered many parents.

The School Board is expected to vote on the recommendations on Monday, February 27th.

The Akron School Superintendent gave his State of the Schools speech Wednesday morning at  the Martin Center at the University of Akron. The public was invited and allowed to ask questions.
