Indians closer Chris Perez has a strained muscle in his side and he'll be out for the next 4-6 weeks. The right hander did it when he threw his first bullpen session a few days ago.
The team feels he still could be ready by Opening Day on April 5th. Relief pitchers can get ready for the season in a week or two. If Perez is not ready by the opener, Vinny Pestano would get the first chance to be the closer, according to manager Manny Acta.
This is the second injury they've announced in the last three days. Grady Sizemore has been shut down indefinitely with a sore back, he still has to rehab a knee injury as well.
