South Euclid son charged with murdering father

A 30-year-old man is in police custody for allegedly killing his father during a domestic dispute in South Euclid.

Quentin Diggs has been charged with murder.

Police were called to the family's Princeton Boulevard home Sunday morning around 9:15AM.

When officers arrived, they found 61-year-old Oliver Diggs dead, and 58-year-old Brenda Diggs injured. She was treated at Hillcrest Hospital.

Police say the parents were sleeping when their son came into their room asking for money to buy cigarettes.

When Brenda got up to get money for the suspect, Quentin became upset and started assaulting her. Oliver told Quentin to stop and followed him down the stairs and out the front door where they became engaged in a physical altercation. Oliver was struck a number of times in the head with a brick.

According to police, this was not a random act of violence. Quentin has a history mental illness and substance abuse, and was previously convicted of domestic violence (February 2008) and assault (June 2000) in South Euclid Municipal Court.

The South Euclid Police Department has been to the Diggs residence 111 since August of 2004.

Oliver has a previous conviction for domestic violence (May 1999) in South Euclid Municipal Court and had a domestic violence case out of South Euclid referred to Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in May of 2006.
