Debeljak selected as Case Western Reserve football coach

CLEVELAND (AP) - Greg Debeljak was selected as Case Western Reserve's head football coach Wednesday after serving as offensive coordinator the past three years.

Debeljak, 38, replaces Joe Perella, who resigned in February to become director of athletics at Beachwood High School.

Before joining the Spartans staff, Debeljak was an assistant football coach at John Carroll University for 12 years. Before that, he played for John Carroll.

Case, which plays football in the University Athletic Association, went 5-5 in 2001 and 2003 and 6-4 in 2002.

"It's been my goal for a long time to be a head football coach," Debeljak said. "We still have a lot of work to do. We have a lot of guys to replace."
