School dedicates garden to student killed in hit and run

BEREA, OH (WOIO) -

The Academy of St. Adalbert in Berea dedicated a garden to a classmate who was killed in a tragic hit and run accident.

Charlie Kho, a 7th grade student, was struck on Cook Road on October 17, and died a day later on his 13th birthday.

Friday, Charlie's Garden was blessed and dedicated to the young man's memory. Following a school mass, Charlie's family and some of his closet friends prayed over the garden.

The garden is another way to keep Charlie's spirit burning bright at St. Adalbert.

"It just lets you know that even now people, are still thinking about him," said Charlie's mother, Ali. "That he touched a lot of people in his life."

"This ceremony means a lot to us," said Charlie's father, Chuck. "Also this week, I took part in the Olmsted Falls graduation where I presented a scholarship to a wrestling student in Charlie's name because he was a wrestler and he would have wanted it that way."

Charlie's dad also told 19 Action News that he looks forward to justice for his son.

Helen Fates, the 80-year-old driver accused of hitting Charlie and then fleeing the scene, goes on trial in July.
