The Indians recalled reliever Scott Barnes from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers. To allow room on the 25-man roster the Indians optioned starter Jeanmar Gomez to Columbus after Sunday's game in Houston.
Barnes has spent much of the season with the Clippers where he has gone 0-2 with a 3.73 ERA in 14 games with 3 starts. Out of the bullpen, he has posted an ERA of 2.35 in 11 outings. Triple-A hitters are batting .188 off him this year without a home run allowed in 31.1 innings pitched with right-handed hitters batting at a .167 clip.
Barnes was with Cleveland from earlier in the year, working in 4 games out of the bullpen, with a 10.38ERA, but he did not allow a hit or a run in 3 of those 4 appearances.
After returning to Columbus he made 3 relief appearances, pitching three innings with a 3.00 ERA.
