ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - The drunk driver who crashed head-on into a car carrying a Valley City family was sentenced to prison on Friday.
Gerald Wetherbee was sentenced to 34 years behind bars.
Wetherbee was convicted of driving drunk and killing the wife and son of a Lorain County Sheriff's Deputy. The accident happened last June in Grafton Township on State Route 83.
Wetherbee - a registered sex offender - had more than twice the legal alcohol limit in his system at the time of the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
Eleven-year-old Thomas Tomasheski III and his 36-year-old mother, Tammy, were killed in the crash. Lorain County Sheriff's Department Corporal Thomas Tomasheski and his daughter 13-year-old Danielle survived, but were critically injured.
