AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Akron Police are investigating after three people were robbed leaving a North Howard Street bar around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The victims, two females and a male, reported they were walking to their car parked in a parking lot at North Howard Street and Ridge Street when they were confronted by three suspects armed with handguns.
The suspects robbed the victims of their belongings and car keys. The suspects then sped off in one of the victims' car, a 2001 Mazda 626.
Responding officers observed the Mazda 626 driving recklessly on Evans Avenue. As officers tried to catch up to the vehicle, the three male occupants bailed from the car in the 800 block of Blanding Avenue. The vehicle rolled into a 2006 Subaru Tribeca parked in a driveway at 884 Blanding Avenue.
Officers recovered the robbery victim's belongings inside of the car.
While officers were checking the area for the suspects that fled from the stolen vehicle, officers observed a 1999 Ford Expedition that had just wrecked into a parked car at 901 Blanding Avenue.
These same three male then bailed from this vehicle. After brief foot chases, all three suspects were apprehended. The owner of the Ford Expedition eventually called to report his car stolen.
Officers arrested: Anthony Bell Jr., 19, of Dover Avenue; Christian D. Gaines, 18, of Glendora Avenue; and Quashane R. Varner, 15, of Elbon Street. Bell and Gaines were charged with Obstructing Official Business and booked into the Summit County Jail. Varner was charged with Obstructing Official Business and Curfew and placed in the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
The robbery is still under investigation and additional charges are expected.
