Storms and Heat, Problems with Lakewood Fireworks, Illegal Fireworks Bust

Storms moving in from the northwest will continue to bring lightning, downpours and gusty winds. Storm threat will diminish as we continue into the late morning and afternoon.  Storms should stay west of I-77 late today. The heat and humidity will build back in on Friday and we can't rule out isolated storms. Expect widespread storms to move in on Saturday into Saturday night. That front will bring relief from the heat and humidity on Sunday.

Police say there were technical problems with the Lakewood fireworks display Wednesday night and the event had to be canceled. We are told that the issues were electrical in nature and a few fireworks went off before the problem caused the fireworks to stop abruptly. Workers were trying to fix the issue before the decision was made to cancel the event. There is no word at this time if the fireworks display will be rescheduled or not.

We've learned of multiple busts in Cleveland for illegal fireworks. One happened along East 105th, members of the 5th District Community Services Unit stopped a car with lots of illegal fireworks. We're also hearing of other busts on the near west side and the southeast side. Folks tell they see all kinds of fireworks for sale on the streets by all kinds of people. Last month a Crime Stoppers tip led police to a man's garage filled with fireworks, he was charged with a misdemeanor for having those illegal fireworks.
