ASHLAND COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - On July 5, 2012 at approximately 12:53 p.m. troopers from the Ashland Post of the State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on SR 511 at CR 500 in Troy Township in northern Ashland County. Deputies from the Ashland County Sheriffs Department, Ruggles-Troy Fire Department and Firelands EMS also responded.

The preliminary investigation revealed Nina L. Summerton, age 72, of Ashland, Ohio was operating a 2002 Chrysler Sebring northbound on SR 511. A passenger in her vehicle was Robert A Summerton, age 53 also of Ashland. Raymond L. Hartley, age 74 of Wadsworth, Ohio was operating a 2003 Freightliner tractor-trailer southbound on SR 511. Summerton failed to negotiate a right curve at CR 500 and drove left of center. Her vehicle was struck in the passenger side of the vehicle by Hartley and pushed off the roadway where it struck a Verizon Telephone box.
Robert Summerton was pronounced dead at the scene. Nina Summerton was transported to Ashland Samaritan Hospital and then transferred to Cleveland Metro Hospital for treatment, Her injuries are unknown at this time. Hartley was not injured and was checked at the scene by EMS personnel and released.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected in the crash and all occupants were wearing seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.
