North Ridgeville man killed in high-speed police chase

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, OH (WOIO) - The North Ridgeville Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that happened in the parking lot of the Walgreens on Center Ridge Road.

Police got a call around 3:30 a.m. Sunday for a man passed out in his vehicle in the drive thru of the McDonald's on Lorain Road.

While officers responded to the call, the man was awakened by a citizen. As the first officer arrived on scene, the officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the drive thru lane, but the driver refused to stop.

A second officer arrived, and the two officers attempted to block the vehicle from leaving the parking lot. The vehicle stopped briefly, and once the officers exited their cruisers, the man drove around a cruiser and exited onto northbound Lear Nagle Road. The officers went back to their cruisers and drove after him.

The vehicle fled from officers at a high rate of speed northbound on Lear Nagle until it ran off the roadway near the intersection with US Rt 20 and struck a business.

The man was ejected from the vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was identified as 32-year-old Jeremy B. Casey, originally from North Ridgeville.

The crash remains under investigation and alcohol is suspected to be a factor.
