Cleveland man accused of using his dog as a weapon

A man is sitting in the Cleveland Jail for using his dog as a weapon. It happened on Warner Road early Sunday morning.

Cleveland Police say someone threw Molotov cocktails at them from a roof after they wrapped up another call. They say the suspect, Andrew Trefny became combative, and then unleashed his pit bull on the officers.

The police report shows the dog started biting an officer on the leg. Other officers opened fire on the attacking dog. They killed it, but the officer under attack accidentally got hit in the leg by the gunfire. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Trefny remains in jail, but has not been charged.
