Lakewood Chase and Crash, BW Name Change, TomKat Divorce Settlement

Just before four Tuesday morning, Lakewood Police attempted to pull a driver over for expired license plates. The driver of the Porsche took off west down Detroit Avenue. Police took off behind the car. The driver eventually crashed through the trees down the Detroit Road extension and went down into the Metroparks, crashing onto Valley Parkway.  The car landed upside down on its roof. The driver is expected to be ok. The Porsche is now a mangled mess.

Baldwin-Wallace College is now Baldwin Wallace University in a move aimed at more accurately reflecting the institution's current structure and the breadth of academic program offerings. The Trustees voted at their winter meeting to adopt the name change effective July 1. Last fall, former BW President Richard Durst established a special task force to review the advisability of changing the institution's name. The ten-member group, chaired by William Spiker, vice president for advancement, recommended the adoption of "university" following five months of study and constituent surveys that included input from students, alumni, faculty and staff, with each group favoring the change.

Barely 11 days after the divorce papers were filed, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have settled out of court. The couple - commonly referred to as TomKat - have signed an undisclosed settlement, according to a report by CNN. The couple have one child, Suri, age 6. A joint statement prepared by a publicist says the couple are working in the best interest of their daughter, and asked for privacy. "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplishing what is in our daughter Suri's best interests," the statement said. "We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents." Holmes filed for divorce June 28 in New York, and asked for sole custody.
