Little girl struck by grandmother's car

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

A four-year-old girl is recovering after being struck by her grandmother's car in her Springfield Township driveway.

It happened around 8:15 p.m. on Canton Road.

A 2003 Ford Windstar minivan, driven by 70-year-old Patricia J Irwin was backing out of the driveway. The four-year-old came out of the house. Irwin stated she stopped the van and opened the driver's door to say goodbye to her granddaughter.

The van then moved in reverse and it appears the open driver's door struck the little girl, Lily Harbert.  The van continued in reverse and into the yard striking some trees.

Irwin was transported by Springfield Township EMS to Akron City Hospital with minor injuries.

The child was transported by Springfield Township EMS to Akron Children's Hospital and is in stable condition.

No charges have been filed at this time, the crash remains under investigation.
