Body Found in Courtyard, Train Derails and Bursts in Flames, Property Auction

Homicide detectives are investigating after a body was found in an apartment courtyard on Cleveland's east side. It happened around 7 a.m. at East 140th Street and Lakeshore. No word on the victim's identity or a cause of death at this time.

A 98-car freight train carrying agricultural products derailed around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, causing some cars to burst into flames. Norfolk Southern says it appears about 11 cars of a southbound train derailed near Interstate 71, southeast of the Ohio State University campus. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the crash, how many cars caught fire or what they contained. A photographer who was in the area says he was more than 10 miles away in New Albany when he saw something illuminate the sky. He says he went to the scene to take photos and noticed a chemical smell in addition to the smoke. Approximately 100 residents living within a mile of the crash have been evacuated from their homes and were taken to a safe area at the State Fair Grounds. Two injuries have been reported but are believed to be minor.
