Investigation: Gas lines tampered with at Canton home

CANTON, OH (WOIO) - Canton Fire officials confirm to 19 Action News that tampered gas lines caused a home to explode late Wednesday evening.

The home located at 708 Weiler Avenue N.E. in Canton, Ohio exploded then burst into flames.

"We were sitting right there, listening to music, next thing we knew glass was in the alley, windows in the alley. It was leveled," said Victor Blair.

According to the Canton's Fire Chief, residents heard several explosions. The home lifted 5 ft. up in the air and collapsed when it hit the ground. No one was inside at the time and other houses just feet away managed to avoid damage and so did children playing nearby.

"If somebody would have been in there, they wouldn't have survived," said neighbor Michael Brunner.

"I feel blessed. We were right behind and it could have blown the back of our house off or anything. It was a pretty big explosion," said Erica Brown.

Canton Fire officials and Dominion Ohio Gas continue to investigate.
