ALLIANCE, OH (WOIO) - Alliance Police responded to report of a robbery in the 1000 Block of S. Mahoning Ave. An Alliance woman, who celebrates her 84th birthday Thursday, was taking her morning walk when she was attacked and robbed.
The thief shoved the woman face down onto a sidewalk, took her purse and fled on foot. A passing motorist had found the woman lying injured on a sidewalk and called police.
The victim has been admitted to the Alliance Community Hospital with injuries including multiple broken bones, contusions and bruising. She told officers that her main concern was that her rosary had been taken.
The suspect, Mark A. Patrick, was located just before 1:00PM in the area of S. Arch Ave and E. Cambridge Street. He was taken into custody without incident on an outstanding warrant for breaking and entering, from a separate incident.
During questioning, the 21-year old denied involvement or knowledge of the robbery. He eventually confessed to the crime, and lead officers to a wooded area where the stolen purse and contents were recovered. The cash from the purse was found in Patrick's possession.
Mark Patrick was charged with aggravated robbery and breaking and entering.
He is being held in Stark County Jail on $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Alliance Municipal Court on Friday at 1:00PM.
Officers visited the woman at the hospital and returned the rosary to her.
