Indians Squeeze By Tigers

Cleveland (WOIO) - For the sixth time in seven meetings this season, the Indians found a way to tame the Tigers, and this time it took a squeeze play to do it.

With the score tied at two in the 7th, Travis Hafner tripled off the wall in left center, bringing Aaron Cunningham to the plate.  Manny Acta sent in Lou Marson to pinch-run for Hafner, then made the call, calling for the squeeze.  Cunningham laid down the perfect bunt, Marson scored the go-ahead run, and the Indians were on their way to a dramatic 3-2 win over the division leaders.

Johnny Damon opened the scoring the second with an RBI single, and Carlos Santana doubled the lead with an RBI of his own in the fourth, before Miguel Cabrera took Joe Smith deep for a two-run home run in the 7th to tie it up.

Ubaldo Jimenez went seven innings, giving up no runs and striking out four.

Chris Perez came on in the 9th to record his 28th save.

The win moves the Indians to within three games of Detroit in the American League Central.
