Disabled vehicle sets off chain reaction accidents in Lake County

A busy morning for officers at the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

Officers responded to two separate accidents on North Ridge Road in Perry Township.

The first accident involved a Chevrolet disabled in the curb lane of North Ridge Road.  Two vehicles behind the Chevrolet stopped to avoid the Chevrolet when a third vehicle was unable to stop in time and drove off the right side of the road.

Another vehicle, also unable to stop, ended up colliding into a Volkswagen.

The driver of the Volkswagen was pushed into the back of a Saturn sedan.

In total, three vehicles were damaged in this initial accident.

No reporter injuries in this one.

After this accident, a 1998 Dodge Neon was stopped in the westbound curb lane for the initial crash.

That's when the driver of a motorcycle collided into the Dodge Neon.

The motorcycle driver, 45-year-old James Hoffmann was not wearing a helmet.

He was transported to Madison Hospital and later life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation.
