North Canton Police warns about cougar sightings

NORTH CANTON, OH (WOIO) - Within the last few days, three separate residents have reported sightings of a large cat-like animal resembling a cougar or mountain lion on or near their residences. Officers were dispatched to check the following areas for the animal or signs of it.

They were: 07-25-2012, Wednesday - 300 Block, 5th. Street N.W.  at 2:38 am. -  Resident's motion detector lights went on and reported seeing a mountain lion sized run across the street.

7-28-2012, Saturday – Stark Parks Nature Trail 1300 Block of E. Maple St. at 10:02 am. – A couple of people walking together reported they saw a large tan cat about the size of a German shepherd dog.

07-30-2012, Monday – 1400 Block  Wilkshire Cir. S.W. at 4:11 am. – Resident's reported seeing and hearing a mountain lion / cougar like animal walk through their back yard.

The public is encouraged to report such incidents as soon as possible to their local law enforcement agency or those living within the city to the North Canton Police Department at 330-499-5911.
