Inmate escapes work detail, robs bank then captured

ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - Authorities say they arrested an escaped inmate just hours after he robbed a bank in Elyria.

Elyria Police responded to the robbery at Fifth Third Bank on Broad St. Thursday afternoon.  Cops say the suspect passed a robbery note and did not display any weapons.

Witnesses say the suspect had run onto the railroad tracks behind the bank.  The suspect was spotted by officers near the Black River near East Bridge Street.  He fled westbound along the river but was eventually taken into custody.

The suspect is identified as Bryan Long, age 26, of South Island Rd., Columbia Station.  Mr. Long was in possession of the money taken in the robbery.

Approximately $3000.00 was recovered. Mr. Long was charged with robbery and obstructing official business. 

Long was wanted since Sunday when he walking away from the Lorain/Medina Community Based Correctional Facility while cleaning up trash.

He escaped with Brandon Bokar. Bokar was captured Monday, August 6.

Long was transported to the Lorain County Jail where he is held without bond.
