Back to school fair helps children

The 11th Annual Back to School Fair was held today at University Settlement, a neighborhood center in Cleveland's Broadway/Slavic Village community.

University Settlement provided 2,000 bags filled with school supplies at no cost to students living in the Broadway/Slavic Village Community.

Derrick Fulton with University Settlement says, "The need is huge.  We have a lot of people lined up here, we have over two thousand backpacks that we will give away, additionally we have a hunger center where we provide meals."

Within an hour, most of the backpacks had been given away.

This year, as in previous years, the Settlement distributed school supplies in a family-friendly, festive environment, complete with inflatable rides, games, music, food and entertainment.

Cynthia Doyle participated in today's event, "It helps out tremendously our family is nearly destitute.  They are cutting back on food stamps and it's hard to even get them school clothes.  We're missing payments on other bills to do this."
