Cleveland Police Officers are investigating after an officer shot and killed a Rottweiler dog Sunday morning.
Police say that while on a routine patrol, an officer observed the large dog attacking a smaller dog.
According to the officer, the owner of the dog was on scene and could not control their dog or get the animal to stop attacking the small dog.
The officer used his service shotgun to fatally shoot the animal.
As result of the shooting, a female bystander who was approximately 120 feet away from the location was struck with a ricochet or debris from the discharge.
The victim was treated for a superficial wound to the back of the head.
The smaller dog was conveyed to a west side animal clinic for treatment.
The Cleveland Division of Police Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team is investigating.
