Mentor man accused in standoff to undergo mental evaluation

The 24-year-old man accused in a six hour police stand-off in Mentor will be taken to a hospital to undergo a mental evaluation.

Police say around 5 p.m. Thursday, they were called to the Mentor Square Apartments on Center Street for a disturbance call.

When officers arrived and tried to interview Antonio Iaconianni, he fled on foot armed with a gun.

He was found hiding under a porch on Mansion Drive a short time later.

After being sprayed with pepper spray, he allegedly pointed his gun at officers.

SWAT team was then called to the scene and hours later, Iaconianni surrendered without incident.

He is charged with aggravated menacing, obstructing official business and carrying a concealed weapon.
