YOUNGSTOWN, OH (WOIO) - Youngstown Police have a man in custody in the shooting death of an eight year old.
Bryce Linebaugh was struck in his head with a bullet early Monday morning as he slept. The innocent little boy died in his bunk bed on the second floor of his family's home in the Rockford Village Apartments. He lived with his mother and two younger siblings.
Police say a suspect fired an assault rifle at the building and rounds blasted through the windows and walls.
21-year old Shawn Wilson has been named a person of interest is in custody. Officers think Wilson was shooting at someone else and a stray bullet hit Bryce.
"It's bad enough that black adults and us males and females are killing each other, but for it to happen to a child, it makes no sense. It's reckless," said a neighbor.
Wilson is currently locked up in the Mahoning County Jail.
Funeral arrangements for Bryce are still being worked out. He was about to start the second grade.
