Andy Reid: Foles might start Friday but Vick will be ready for season opener
Vick probably won't play Friday, but should play in season opener
BEREA, OH (WOIO) -
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Michael Vick probably won't play Friday against the Browns. If Vick can't play, back-up quarterback Nick Foles will start when the Eagles travel to Cleveland Browns Stadium.
He also expects Vick to be ready to play against the Browns in the season opener on September 9.
Vick left Monday's game against New England on Monday after taking a hard hit. X-rays were negative, but Vick didn't practice on Wednesday because of bruised ribs.
In two preseason games, Foles is 24 of 38 for 361 yards, with four TDs and one interception.
Because of a scheduling quirk, the Eagles will play the Browns on Friday in the third preseason game then two weeks later in the season opener. The third preseason game typically is treated as a dress rehearsal meaning the starters play into the second half.
However, Reid said the Eagles' starters will only play the first quarter. Cleveland head coach Pat Shurmur says the Browns' starters will probably play the first half.
