Teens injured after car crashes into building

The Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that happened Saturday morning in Carlisle Township at approximately 6:40 a.m.

It happened on Middle Avenue north of Butternut Ridge Road.

Troopers say the driver, Isiah McKibben, 17 of Lorain was driving northbound on Middle Avenue when he lost control after driving over the railroad tracks.

McKibben drove off the left side of the road, struck a ditch, a fence and a cinder block building. The cinder block building housed natural gas lines that were struck, causing a severe gas leak.

One of the passengers, Eric Redondo, 15 of Elyria was able to exit the vehicle on his own and walk to safety. Another passenger, Charlie Rivera, 15 of Elyria exited the vehicle and fell to the ground.

McKibben and the other passenger, Deshawn Gamble, 14 of Elyria remained inside the vehicle. Emergency workers were unable to reach Rivera, McKibben or Gamble until officials deemed it safe to approach the vehicle and extract them from the area.

McKibben was transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital and later flown to MetroHealth Medical Center.

Redondo, who was in the front seat, was transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gamble and Rivera, who were in the back seat, were both lifeflighted to MetroHealth Medical Center.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by Carlisle Township Fire & EMS, Cleveland Metro life flight, Columbia Gas and Dunlap's Towing.
