Motorists should be aware of the likelihood of a sharp rise in gasoline prices in the next few days and through the weekend in Cleveland. "I expect stations to have increased prices as much as 10-35 cents per gallon by the conclusion of the weekend with some stations starting to raise prices immediately," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst. DeHaan warns that Tropical Storm Isaac, as well as murky regional refining issues boosted wholesale gasoline prices to their highest level so far this year, rising 7-cents per gallon higher than their previous peak back in March.
Tropical Storm Isaac's winds and rain continue to pose a threat to residents along the Gulf Coast, as it barrels toward several states. Isaac appears to be following a path similar to Hurricane Katrina. It is expected to make landfall near New Orleans as a category 1 storm Wednesday, the seven-year anniversary of when Katrina tore through the city. The 8 a.m. ET report from the National Hurricane Center stated Isaac has not broke through the hurricane threshold and has maximum sustained winds of 70 mph. Sustained winds in hurricanes must be at least 74 mph. The slow-moving system is headed slightly west of New Orleans proper, prompting a westward extension of a tropical storm warning, which now reaches along the northern Gulf Coast to Cameron, LA. A tropical storm watch has also been extended as far west as High Island, TX.
