AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Police arrested an Akron Public Schools employee Tuesday on two charges of rape and three charges of gross sexual imposition of a minor under the age of 13.
Police say, the suspect D'Juan Shields, 40, of Akron, is accused of raping two girls who were ages 7 and 10 at the time of the incidents which occurred in December of 2011 and April of 2012. The victims were not students.
In a statement, Akron Public Schools said:
On August 28th, APS employee D'Juan Shields was suspended from work for alleged charges involving sexual conduct with a minor.
Pursuant to the Ohio revised code (section 3319.40), the district is required to suspend any employee who is arrested, summoned or indicted for specific offenses from all duties that require the care, custody or control of a child during the pendency of the criminal action against the person.
Shields has been employed with the district since 2006, most recently as an educational assistant at Hyre CLC.
