Navy Week 2012 - Cleveland 19 News Cleveland, OH

Navy Week 2012

Navy Week continues throughout the weekend in Downtown Cleveland.

The week runs in conjunction with the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.

As part of the week celebration Petty Officer, Aaron Burnham of Wadsworth will throw out the first pitch at Friday night's Indians game.

Burnham is back from Afghanistan where he was with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 26.

Twenty-some years ago Burnham was a marine and was mobilized during the Gulf War.  After his tour he still felt the desire to serve so he joined the Navy reserves.  He was deployed in Afghanistan as he put himself in danger to help improve the quality of life for Afghanis.

"It is a constant of life in that part of the world and because you're trained you learn to deal with it," said Petty Ofc., Burnham.

Burnham is hoping this week's events will be a great opportunity for the people of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio to see their navy see the ships, talk to the sailors and find out about their missions.
