CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - The death of former Browns owner, Art Modell will not take away the pain many fans felt when Modell packed up the team and left Cleveland in 1995.
Why did he leave? Did he have no choice? WTAM's Mike Trivisonno talked with Modell back in 2007.
Modell did a lot of explaining.
Modell purchased the Browns in 1961 for $4 million dollars. During his ownership, the team won 11 division titles and the 1964 NFL championship.
After moving the franchise to Baltimore, Modell sold a small minority interest to Maryland businessman Steve Bisciotti. He eventually sold controlling interest to Bisciotti and held a 1% share in the team.
