College students rescued from water tower

ALLIANCE, OH (WOIO) - A group of college students went to great lengths to ring in the new school year.

Saturday night Alliance Police officers discovered a group of intoxicated Mount Union students ringing in the new school year by climbing the city water tower in the 200 block of W 23rd St.

The students had climbed up the electrical conduit to a platform half-way up the tower.

Both Fire Engines 11 and 12 had to be called out for the rescue that lasted more than 90 minutes. 

Charges have been filed on the students for underage consumption and trespassing.
