The Browns signed offensive lineman D.J. Young to the practice squad on Tuesday. To make room for Young, the club released offensive lineman Jeff Shugarts from the practice squad.
In addition, the NFL lifted the exemption for linebacker Scott Fujita.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Arizona last July, Young spent the first 16 weeks of the 2011 season on the Cardinals' practice squad before being elevated to the active roster for the final game. He was waived by Arizona last month.
Young was a two-year starter on the offensive line at Michigan State University (2009-10) after transferring from Bowling Green State University (2006-07), where he appeared in 17 games as a defensive lineman.
