Police are investigating after a young mother is shot and killed.

Around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Cleveland Police received a call for a woman shot on East 118th. EMS transported the victim to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she died after midnight.

The victim has been identified as Keisha Freeman, 31. Relatives say Freeman leaves behind three sons, ages 13,11 and 8.

"There's no replacement.  There's nothing that can take the place of my baby girl.  She lived for her kids." said Joyce Freeman.

Police say Keisha Freeman and the suspect were involved in a verbal altercation.

After the verbal altercation, the suspect left the scene and returned in a red vehicle.

Witnesses say the suspect exited the vehicle and shot Keisha Freeman multiple times with a handgun.

The suspect then fled the scene in the red vehicle.

"She was taking up for another woman who was being battered by her man and she just spoke up for the woman and didn't survive because of it," said Darlene Williams.

Family and friends heartbroken as they gathered to remember the young mother.

A makeshift memorial marks the spot where Freeman was gunned down.

No arrests have been made.

"Whoever you are you are going to get caught. You might as well turn yourself in," said Darlene Williams.
