AVON, OH (WOIO) - A man turned himself in Thursday for accident that killed a construction worker on I-90.
Anthony J. Rose Jr. voluntarily turned himself in at 2:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Avon Lake Police Department. He has been charged with assured clear distance ahead, a minor misdemeanor, and vehicular manslaughter, a second-degree misdemeanor.
He was released on personal bond and is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 4 in Avon Lake Municipal Court.
Construction worker Peter Maglis, 63, of Campbell, Ohio was struck and killed by a Jeep around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12. All lanes lanes westbound between State Route 83 and Crocker Road were closed for about five hours.
The accident happened on I-90 Westbound at the Lear Nagle Road overpass construction zone in Avon.
A Jeep and minivan collided, sending the Jeep into a construction trailer and hitting the victim as he was putting tarps in place to begin painting.
Some bystanders frantically tried to help the critically injured victim by putting a tourniquet on his leg and even attended to his head wound. Maglis was transported by Avon EMS to the hospital, but did not survive his injuries.
The other drivers were not seriously injured in the accident.
