BEACHWOOD, OH (WOIO) - A foster home with children inside caught fire late Wednesday night in Beachwood.
The fire started shortly after 11 p.m. at the foster home on Edgewood Road.
Neighbors tell 19 Action News the homeowner takes in foster children, and several were living with her when the blaze broke out. Some of the children have special needs.
A witness said the family evacuated the home very quickly as the flames intensified and, eventually, destroyed the house.
"Everybody got out safely and that what's really important," said witness Ariane Kirkpatrick. "It didn't look like a big fire. It was just smoke and all of a sudden, there were flames everywhere."
The home appears to be a total loss.
Fire investigators are now looking into what sparked the blaze.
A fund to assist the family has been established at KeyBank. Donations can be made at any KeyBank location and a phone line has been set up at 216-370-2838 for questions about the fund.
