Lorain: Attempted abductions prompt police to step up patrols

LORAIN, OH (WOIO) -

Lorain Police are investigating after two attempted child abductions.

The first attempted luring happened on Tuesday morning at the school bus stop at G Street and Filmore.  A mother told police that a man in a light-colored car pulled up and asked her son to come to his car and get some candy.  The suspect - described as a middle-aged white men with a mustache - car drove off when another vehicle approached.

The second incident happened at the school bus stop at McKinley Street and Euclid Avenue on Wednesday morning.  A grandmother reported that a man in multi-colored car drove up and offered a little boy candy.

"I was very upset and scared for him.  I was proud of him for doing the right thing for running and not taking the candy," said Songa Zakowski.

The boy said the suspect - described as a white man with a red goatee - had a gun on the dash of his vehicle.

"I'd like to see him get caught so kids can feel safe," Songa Zakowski said.

Police believe the attempted luring's are connected, and are beefing up patrols and urging vigilance.
