Man shot and killed in Lorain County standoff


On Saturday September 15 around 1:30 a.m. Lorain County deputies were dispatched to 704 Dewitt St. Sheffield Township for a 911 call.

As deputies approached the residence they observed 41 year-old Billy Alexander on the front porch who then discharged a firearm and went back into the house.  At this same time deputies were made aware there was a woman subject and two children inside the home.

The deputies were able to evacuate his wife and the children from the residence.  After a perimeter was set up, the deputies then made several attempts to make contact with Alexander inside.

After these attempts were unsuccessful the Lorain County SWAT team was called to the scene.  Swat officers eventually confronted Alexander in his back yard.  It did not turn oit well for him.  Police say he fired a shot at them.  They returned fire, killing him.

The Lorain Police Department was then contacted to assist in the investigation.
