Charges dropped against corrections officer caught on tape beating inmate

ELYRIA, OH (WOIO) - Prosecutors have dismissed the assault charge against a Lorain County Corrections Officer, who was caught on surveillance video beating an inmate. The charges were dropped while federal authorities conduct their investigation. The state can re-file, if they choose.

The incident happened on July 29.

Corrections Officer Marlon Taylor was charged with assault.

The video shows Officer Taylor, 48, throwing inmate Jordan Sand, 18, against the wall and then punching him until other officers intervened.

Sand, whom was jailed for theft, was not seriously injured.

Officer Taylor remains on paid administrative leave.
