Vigil remembers local soldier killed in Texas fire

Family and friends are remembering the life of a 19 year old soldier.

A candlelight vigil in memory of Seth Michael Soulsby was held Sunday evening outside Mogadore High School's football field.

Soulsby, 19, of Mogadore, passed away in an apartment fire on Sept. 14, 2012 in Killeen, Texas.  The Mogadore High School graduate served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX.  He had been assigned to Troop G, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment since December 2011.

Soulsby's awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

Calling hours for the soldier are set for Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 5-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron.  Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. and he will be buried at Standing Rock Cemetery, Kent. 

A Seth Soulsby fund has been established at First Merit Bank.
