Lorain man attacks K9 officer

LORAIN, OH (WOIO) - A 42-year-old man is accused of repeatedly punching a K9 officer in Lorain over the weekend.

Officers were called to Pearl Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday for reports of a fight, with one of the suspects possibly armed.

Willie Ramos fled when he saw officers arrive, and police gave chase.

The K9 officer found Ramos hiding in the parking lot of Sacred Heart Chapel. Ramos refused to obey the order to surrender. As the K9 officer pursued Ramos, Ramos punched the dog repeatedly. He also squeezed the dog's face.

Other officers intervened, and punched Ramos in the face. He let go of the K9, and officers quickly arrested him.

A number of prenatal vitamins were found on Ramos, as well as an unidentified white substance. The substance did not initially test positive for narcotics, but further testing will be conducted.

Ramos is charged with assault on a police dog, resisting arrest, obstructing official business and possession of a counterfeit substance.19 Action News has learned there was also an outstanding warrant out for Ramos' arrest.
