Woman tied up during terrifying home invasion in Akron

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

Police are investigating after a terrifying home invasion in Akron.

It happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Coventry Street.

A woman told police she was standing in her kitchen making lunch when a black man forced open her north side door.

The man, armed with a handgun, tied the victim up with an electrical cord and forced her into the bedroom and onto the floor.

The suspect threatened to kill the victim before taking her wallet, cell phone and car keys and fleeing with the victim's turquoise, two-door, 2001 Ford Explorer, bearing Ohio registration EQK-1214.

The victim was able to free herself and run to a neighbor's house to call police.

The suspect is a black man, 30- 35 years old, 5'08"- 5'10", 200 lbs., short buzzed hair, silver rimmed glasses, wearing a gray and light blue jacket, blue jeans and dark colored work boots.

The victim's vehicle, a turquoise, two-door, 2001 Ford Explorer, bearing Ohio registration EQK-1214 and is still missing.

Anyone with information on the suspect or whereabouts of the victim's vehicle is asked to contact the Akron Police Department, Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490.
