AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Akron has altered its procedures dealing with vicious dogs. The change is due to the September 20, 2012 attack on a six year-old Summit County boy.
Among the changes, the middleman has now been eliminated. In other words, a policeman on the scene now has the authority to contact an animal control officer to discuss the case. Previously the cop would have to fall Safety Services first, and then call the animal control officer.
Also, the city's animal control officers will respond to any and all vicious dog attacks -- even if the dog is no longer a threat.
