MRSA scare at Avon Lake school

AVON LAKE, OH (WOIO) - A MRSA scare at an Avon Lake middle school.

On Monday, parents and guardians received a letter from the district stating a student at Learwood Middle School has been diagnosed with MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant infection known to cause skin infections. If untreated, MRSA could progress into a more serious illness.

School officials say they have performed extra cleaning and disinfecting, scrubbing down the cafeteria, gyms, restrooms, classrooms and buses to help prevent the bacteria from spreading.
