ASHTABULA, OH (WOIO) - Officials at the Ashtabula County APL are desperately hoping to avoid a mass euthanasia next week.
Over 30 dogs were dropped off by the dog warden within the last week - a third of the kennel's capacity. The shelter is overcrowded, and shelter officials may be forced to euthanize dozens of dogs.
There are too many cats, too, but it's the dogs that are in the most life-threatening situation. Adoptions are down, probably due to the economy.
The shelter will host an adoption event this weekend at the Mentor PetSmart.
They are hoping a successful adoption drive will curb the need to put the animals down.
If you would like to adopt one of the pups in need of a good home, please visit the APL's website here.
