AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Police and firefighters remove a car from the Cuyahoga River in Akron Tuesday afternoon.
The owner of the car was not in the vehicle, but showed up at the accident scene at Portage Trail Hill and Akron-Peninsula Road.
Owner Robert Buger told police he was driving home around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning when a deer ran across the highway. He swerved to avoid the deer, and ended up going over the median between the two bridges.
Buger says he does not remember getting out of the vehicle. He did manage to find his way home, and only suffered a few cuts and scraps from the accident.
This is the same area where a dump truck driver lost control and ended up in the river this past July.
The dump truck driver, 41-year-old Christopher Burgess, was trapped in his vehicle and died.
Officials say his truck had ineffective brakes.
