Death on city's east side likely accidental

The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 46-year-old man.

It happened at 10:50 p.m. at East 125th and Forest Avenue.

Prior to arrival on scene, officers were advised by EMS that the man suffered from head trauma and they were conveying him to MetroHealth Medical Center. Upon arrival at Metro, officers were informed that the man had died.

The preliminary investigation reveals that neighbors heard someone walking up stairs and heard a loud thump. Upon checking for the noise, the victim was observed laying on his back in the front yard. Neighbors stated that they did not hear any gunshots at the time of the incident and per medical personnel the trauma to the victim's head did not appear to be caused by a gunshot. Further, it was raining at the time of the incident and the stairs were wet and slippery.

The official cause of death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office.
