Cash mob invades small Solon business

SOLON, OH (WOIO) - A cash mob invaded the Wildlife Garden store in Solon at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

It's a local program designed by the Chamber of Commerce to encourage the people of Solon to shop locally.

Bill Pincoe hopes the cash mob that descended on his Aurora Road store will boost his bottom line. Pincoe is a small business owner battling the brutal economy.

"We're making it, it is challenging after 18 years," Pincoe said. "We have established a good clientele base."

Wildlife Gardens specializes in bird feeders and bird seed, but shoppers can get almost anything to liven up their yard.

The store is part of a Solon Chamber of Commerce program called Shop Solon First and the program means exactly that. The Chamber is trying to get people who live in Solon to spend their money in Solon.

And while 50 or 60 people coming in and spending at least $20 will bring a cash infusion, it's hoped the cash mob will produce a future bounce in business.

"The people leave and they know what's in the store and that's good," said Jim Kelvington of Solon Chamber of Commerce. "It helps the merchants and that's our goal."

Pincoe is thrilled the chamber picked his business. He's been a long-time supporter of small business owners.

"I know where they're coming from, so I like to support all the smaller guys. I think it's important."
