The Lakefront West Project, delayed because of budget problems, is back on track.
Gov. John Kasich, Ohio Department of Transportation Director Jerry Wray and Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson announced on Thursday, Oct. 4 that ODOT reforms and federal funds will provide money to accelerate the project's schedule.
Expected to cost several million dollars, the project would increase access to the lakefront by extending West 73rd Street north to the lake. That would involve digging a tunnel under railroad tracks to create access for cars, pedestrians and bicyclists.
