Three firefighters injured battling two house fires

Three Cleveland firefighters were injured fighting a fire in the city Thursday evening.  It started just before 8 p.m.

The fires, on Hillman Ave. off Broadway, were in two houses and their garages.  Officials say the blaze started in a vacant garage.  It then spread to a vacant house which then spread to an occupied neighboring home and its garage.

Two firefighters were transported to Metro with minor burns around their face and neck area.  They were inside the vacant home when they were injured.  A third firefighter injured his back and head after falling down a flight of stairs in the occupied home.  He was transported to Fairview Hospital.  His condition is not known at this time.

No one else was injured.  Two families from the occupied home were displaced.  Damage is estimated at $45,000.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Cleveland Fire Department.
